Consequences of Not Fixing Small Leaks

A leaky pipe or faucet is a problem that must be dealt with immediately. There are those who get comfortable with a drip-drip noise, but there is much more to worry about than a minor annoyance. Letting your plumbing system leak can cause:

  • Mold to form in pipes and where water is leaking. Mold thrives in damp, dark, and warm places.
  • A home's energy bill to drastically increase. The U.S Geological Survey created a web application that allows the homeowner to calculate how much water they are wasting. For instance, a home that has two faucets that are producing three drops of water per minute will consume close to 200 gallons of water annually.
  • Leaks to worsen, which may ultimately end up causing a devastating flood. It can also end up causing structural damage to the home.

Some leaks are easy to detect, such as a dripping faucet or a leak under a sink. Not all leaks can be seen, and so in those cases, you can try using your nose. If you are noticing a musty/damp smell, it could be a potential sign of a leak. You can also pay close attention to water bills. If you see that a monthly bill is increasing,  don't just assume that you used more water (it could be a leak).

We offer full plumbing system inspections, which means we can locate leaks that are behind walls and under floors (all without having to do damage to the home). If you need the best plumber NYC has, give us a call today!
