Is Your Plumbing System Leaking?

Without clear indicators, it is hard to tell when there is a problem within a plumbing system. A clogged drain is easy to spot, but that is not the case for a pipe that is leaking behind a wall. The clearest indication of a leak is pooling water, but unfortunately it is not always possible to see the excess water. Besides looking for water, there are other indicators that a homeowner can monitor to determine if there is a leak in the home plumbing system. If you notice any problems, it is best to call a New York City plumber.

  1. Take a close look at your last several water bills. If you notice a spike in water usage, it could be the cause of a leak. According to the EPA, the average household wastes more than 10,000 gallons of water annually because of leaks. They claim that roughly one trillion gallons are wasted nationwide.
  2. Has the pressure from your faucets decreased recently? If so, then it could be cause by a leak in the plumbing system. A leak reduces the amount of pressure in the pipes.
  3. You might not see water, but you might see watermarks on ceilings, walls, or floors. Those marks could indicate a leak.
