Why is My Home Water Pressure Weak?

Have you noticed a drop in the water pressure from your shower or sink? If you're experiencing a change, you may be dealing with water pressure issues. The reasons for weak water pressure vary. Below we'll go over the most common.

  1. Mineral Build-Up - This issue commonly occurs in older homes. A build-up of minerals and other sediments creates a weak water flow. To fix this issue, you'll most likely need to replace blocked or corroded plumbing.
  2. Water Softener Malfunction - Ensure your system's water softener is working properly to maintain water flow. When it malfunctions, it may lead to a sudden change in your home's water pressure.
  3. Cracked or Leaking Pipes - A cracked or leaking pipe may be located under the home's foundation or within the walls, and it may cause decreased water pressure.
  4. Clogged Aerator - If the issue is happening at just one faucet, it may be due to a clogged aerator. An aerator is a screen that's located at the end of the faucet. With time, rust or clogs may occur. Be sure to clean the aerator to resolve any issues.
  5. Faulty Pressure Regulator - The regulator controls your home's water pressure from the service line to your house. If this regulator becomes defective, it will most likely affect the water pressure in your home.

Dealing with weak water pressure is never enjoyable, especially when it appears out of nowhere. While there are many reasons for this issue, the fix should be done by a licensed plumber in NYC. Our trained professionals will identify the cause and rectify the problem.
