Why Is My Faucet Leaking

In many situations, it is easy to ignore a leaking faucet. When close to the faucet, the problem is heard, so often the issue is out of sight and out of mind. The problem with this is that your water bill, the environment, and your home will not be able to ignore the problem. Even if only a drip, a leaking faucet can waste more than a gallon of water a day. When this happens for weeks, you waste much water.  There are several reasons why faucet leaks (some worse than others), but regardless of the cause, you should work with a plumber NYC to rectify the situation. All leaks are bad leaks.

The most common issue is the result of a faulty O-ring. An O-ring is used to create a flush seal that keeps a faucet in place. The stem of the faucet screws into a small disc that is known as the O-ring. When the connection becomes loose, you will notice leaking. Regular use causes O-rings to break, so there is little you can do to prevent the issue.

A corroded valve seat is also a common problem that causes leaky faucets. The valve seat is the connector between the faucet and the spout. With time and usage, sediments accumulate in the valve which causes leaking around the spout area.

During normal use, a washer is pushed against the valve seat, and this constant friction causes the washer to wear out. When the problem gets worse, you will notice dripping around the spout.
